I am happy to let everyone know that CORTEZ has been
successfully transmitting Immediate Transportation (IT) Bonds
electronically through our Automated Broker Interface (ABI).
In the past, brokers filled out a Customs Form 7512 and had to
submit the documentation to a local CBP office for signature,
which then allowed the freight to move in bond.
Those of you who are affected by IT shipments know that filing
paper CF-7512's could result in sometimes up to two days
before the document was signed by CBP. This introduced
the potential for delays, storage charges, and just general
slow service to our customers.
After researching and experimenting, we have begun filing
the IT information electronically, and we get a response
typically within 15 minutes. In other words, we can get
our IT's initiated in a matter of minutes, rather than hours
or even days.
CORTEZ is proud to be one of the few brokers in the Chicago
area (and there are approximately 600 in Chicago) that
utilizes the electronic filing of 7512s. In fact, we had
to educate one of the larger warehouses in the area on what to
expect documentation wise. We were the first broker to
ever file an electronic IT for freight at their warehouse!
If you have any questions regarding the electronic filing of
IT bonds, please feel free to contact me at our Elk Grove
Village office.
