We wish to remind our customers who import food products
that registration of Food Facilities is required under the
Bioterrorism Act. The registration of both domestic and
foreign food facilities with FDA must be done by December 12,
2003.
The FDA has published a list of the products that would require
the registration of food facilities. The products are:
- Dietary supplements and dietary ingredients
- Infant formula
- Beverages (including alcoholic beverages and bottled water)
- Fruits and vegetables
- Fish and seafood
- Dairy products and shell eggs
- Raw agricultural commodities for use as food or components
of food
- Canned and frozen foods
- Bakery goods, snack food, and candy (including chewing gum)
- Live food animals
- Animal feeds and pet food
If you are an importer of any of these products, or any other food
products, you are required to register both the foreign and
domestic facilities which handle them or are involved in their
distribution.
NOTE: Foreign facilities are also required to have a U.S.
agent.
The registration form used to register is FDA form
3537. FDA encourages this form to be electronically
completed. Electronic submission will insure a faster
approval response from FDA. however, FAX and mailed in forms
