According to some economists, the SARS epidemic could slow down
China's economic growth by 2.5 percent. No factory
closings, however, have as yet been reported in China.
China has adopted vigorous measures in order to control the flu-like
virus. Not only are factory workers being checked, but also
health officials are "going door to door and taking the
temperatures of individual citizens", according to an article
in the Journal of Commerce.
The impact of SARS on Hong Kong has been particularly severe.
It's commercial activities have been reduced and are shifting to
Shanghai.
